marshmallow
A marshmallow is a sugar-based confection that, in its modern form,
typically consists of sugar, water and gelatin which is whipped to a spongy
consistency, molded into small cylindrical pieces, and coated with corn
starch. Some marshmallow recipes call for eggs. This confection is the modern
version of a medicinal confection made from Althaea officinalis, the
marshmallow plant.
The Nutcracker
is a two-act ballet, originally choreographed by
Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (op. 71).
The libretto is adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann's story The Nutcracker and the
Mouse King, by way of Alexandre Dumas' adapted story 'The Nutcracker'. It was
given its première at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg on Sunday,
December 18, 1892, on a double-bill with Tchaikovsky's opera Iolanta.

What Child is This
is a Christmas carol whose
lyrics were written by William Chatterton Dix, in 1865. At the time of composing the carol, Dix
worked as an insurance company manager and had been struck by a severe illness.
While recovering, he underwent a spiritual renewal that led him to write
several hymns, including lyrics to this carol that was subsequently set to the
tune of "Greensleeves", a traditional English folk song. Although it
was written in England, the carol is more popular in the United States than in
its country of origin today.
12 days of Christmas
is an English Christmas carol
that enumerates in the manner of a cumulative song a series of increasingly
grand gifts given on each of the twelve days of Christmas (the twelve days
after Christmas).
The song, published in England in 1780 without music as a chant or rhyme, is
thought to be French in origin. "The Twelve Days of Christmas" has a
Roud Folk Song Index number of 68. The tunes of collected versions vary. The
standard tune now associated with it is derived from a 1909 arrangement of a
traditional folk melody by English composer Frederic Austin, who first
introduced the now familiar prolongation of the verse "five gold
rings".

Christmas Carol
a novella by
Charles Dickens, first published in London by Chapman & Hall on 19 December
1843. The novella met with instant success and
critical acclaim. A Christmas Carol tells the story of a bitter old miser named
Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation into a gentler, kindlier man after
visitations by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the
Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come.
The book was
written at a time when the British were examining and exploring Christmas
traditions from the past as well as new customs such as Christmas cards and
Christmas trees. Carol singing took a new lease of life during this time.
Dickens's sources for the tale appear to be many and varied, but are,
principally, the humiliating experiences of his childhood, his sympathy for the
poor, and various Christmas stories and fairy tales.
Secular vs. religious
Secular is the state of being separate from religion, or of not
being exclusively allied with or against any particular religion.
For instance, one
can regard eating and bathing as examples of secular activities, because there
may not be anything inherently religious about them. Nevertheless, some
religious traditions see both eating and bathing as sacraments, therefore
making them religious activities within those world views. Saying a prayer
derived from religious text or doctrine, worshipping through the context of a
religion, and attending a religious school are examples of religious
(non-secular) activities.
Religious is a cultural system of behaviors and practices, world
views, sacred texts, holy places, ethics, and societal organisation that relate
humanity to what an anthropologist has called "an order of existence".
Different religions may or may not contain various elements, ranging from the
"divine","sacred things", "faith", a
"supernatural being or supernatural beings"or "some sort of ultimacy
and transcendence that will provide norms and power for the rest of life.

William Shakespeare
was
an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer
in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national
poet, and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including
collaborations, consist of approximately 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long
narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His
plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed
more often than those of any other playwright.
Twelfth Night
a
comedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written around 1601–02 as
a Twelfth Night's entertainment for the close of the Christmas season. The play centres on the twins Viola and
Sebastian, who are separated in a shipwreck. Viola (who is disguised as a boy)
falls in love with Duke Orsino, who in turn is in love with the Countess
Olivia. Upon meeting Viola, Countess Olivia falls in love with her thinking she
is a man. The play expanded on the musical interludes and riotous disorder
expected of the occasion, with plot elements drawn from the short story
"Of Apollonius and Silla" by Barnabe Rich, based on a story by Matteo
Bandello. The first recorded performance was on 2 February 1602, at Candlemas,
the formal end of Christmastide in the year's calendar. The play was not
published until its inclusion in the 1623 First Folio.

The beginning of
The Mentholatum Company started when Albert Alexander Hyde left the real estate
market in 1889. With the collapse of the market, Hyde established a new
partnership called The Yucca Company, located in Wichita, Kansas, which focused
on manufacturing and marketing shaving creams, laundry soap, and toilet soap.
The Yucca Company was the beginning of The Mentholatum Company.
When The Yucca
Company started manufacturing a cough syrup containing a blend of camphor and
menthol, named Vest Pocket Cough Specific, Hyde became intrigued by the
soothing and antiinflammatory effects of menthol. After years of research and
experimentation, the company introduced the original "Mentholatum
Ointment" in December 1894, which consisted of a combination of menthol
and petrolatum. Sales went wild. In 1903, Hyde opened a second office in
Buffalo, New York, to handle sales and distribution east of the Mississippi
River. In 1906, The Yucca Co. officially incorporated the name "The
Mentholatum Company" after its flagship product and no longer sold soap.
In 1909 a new factory was built in Wichita, Kansas, and in 1919 a second
factory was built in Buffalo. The Wichita factory was closed after the death of
A. A. Hyde in 1935 and the corporate offices were moved to Wilmington,
Delaware, in 1937 and later to Buffalo in 1945

Shirley Temple
was an American actress, singer, dancer, businesswoman and
diplomat most notable as Hollywood's number one box-office star from 1935 to
1938. As an adult, she was named United States ambassador to Ghana and
to Czechoslovakia and also served as Chief of Protocol of the United States.
Shirley Temple
began her film career in 1932 at age 3. In 1934, she found international fame
in Bright Eyes, a feature film designed specifically for her talents. She
received a special Juvenile Academy Award in February 1935 for her outstanding
contribution as a juvenile performer to motion pictures during 1934, and film
hits such as Curly Top and Heidi followed year after year during the
mid-to-late 1930s. Licensed merchandise that capitalized on her wholesome image
included dolls, dishes, and clothing. Her box-office popularity waned as she
reached adolescence. She appeared in a few films of varying quality in her
mid-to-late teens, and retired from films in 1950 at the age of 22.
emple returned to
show business in 1958 with a two-season television anthology series of fairy
tale adaptations.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
is an American children's novel written by author L. Frank
Baum and illustrated by W. W. Denslow, originally published by the
George M. Hill Company in Chicago on May 17, 1900. It has since been reprinted
on numerous occasions, most often under the title The Wizard of Oz, which is
the title of the popular 1902 Broadway musical as well as the iconic 1939
musical film adaptation.
The story chronicles the adventures of a young farm girl named
Dorothy in the magical Land of Oz, after she and her pet dog Toto are swept
away from their Kansas home by a cyclone. The novel is one of the
best-known stories in American literature and has been widely translated. The
Library of Congress has declared it "America's greatest and best-loved
homegrown fairytale". Its groundbreaking success and the success of the
Broadway musical adapted from the novel led Baum to write thirteen additional
Oz books that serve as official sequels to the first story.
Tornado
is a violently rotating column of air that spins while in
contact with both the surface of the Earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or, in rare
cases, the base of a cumulus cloud. They are often referred to as
twisters, whirlwinds or cyclones, although the word cyclone is used in
meteorology to name any closed low pressure circulation. Tornadoes come in many
shapes and sizes, but they are typically in the form of a visible condensation
funnel originating from the base of a huge storm cloud, whose narrow end
touches the earth and is often encircled by a basal cloud of debris and dust.
Most tornadoes have wind speeds less than 110 miles per hour (180 km/h), are
about 250 feet (80 m) across, and travel a few miles (several kilometers)
before dissipating. The most extreme tornadoes can attain wind speeds of more
than 300 miles per hour (480 km/h), are more than two miles (3 km) in diameter,
and stay on the ground for dozens of miles (more than 100 km).
Yellow brick road
is a fictional element in the 1900 children's novel The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz by American author L. Frank Baum. The road also
appears in the several sequel Oz books such as The Marvelous Land of Oz (1904)
and The Patchwork Girl of Oz (1913).
The road's most
notable portrayal is in the classic 1939 MGM musical movie The Wizard of Oz,
loosely based on Baum's first Oz book. In the
novel's first edition the road is mostly referred to as the "Road of
Yellow Bricks". In the original story and in later films based on
it such as The Wiz (1978), Dorothy Gale must find the road before embarking on
her journey, as the tornado did not deposit her farmhouse directly in front of
it as in the 1939 film.
St. Stephen's Day
is a Christian saint's day to commemorate Saint Stephen,
the first Christian martyr or protomartyr, celebrated on 26 December in the
Western Church and 27 December in the Eastern Church. Many Eastern Orthodox
churches adhere to the Julian calendar and mark St. Stephen's Day on 27
December according to that calendar, which places it on 9 January of the
Gregorian calendar used in secular contexts. In the denominations of Western
Christianity, Saint Stephen's Day marks the second day of Christmastide.
Epiphany (holiday)

is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of
God in his Son as human in Jesus Christ. In Western Christianity, the
feast commemorates principally (but not solely) the visit of the Magi to the
Christ child, and thus Jesus' physical manifestation to the Gentiles. Moreover,
the feast of the Epiphany, in some Western Christian denominations, also
initiates the liturgical season of Epiphanytide. Eastern Christians, on the
other hand, commemorate the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, seen as his
manifestation to the world as the Son of God.
Over the rainbow
is a ballad, with
music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg.[1] It was written for the movie The Wizard of Oz (1939) and was sung by
actress Judy Garland, in her starring role as Dorothy Gale. The song won the
Academy Award for Best Original Song and became Garland's signature song, as
well as one of the most enduring standards of the 20th century.
Lyrics
Somewhere over the
rainbow, way up high.
There's a land
that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the
rainbow, skies are blue.
And the dreams
that you dare to dream
Really do come
true.
Someday I'll wish
upon a star and
Wake up where the
clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles
melt like lemon drops,
away above the
chimney tops.
That's where
you'll find me.
Somewhere over the
rainbow,bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the
rainbow.
Why,then,why can't
I?
If happy little bluebirds
fly beyond the rainbow.
Why, oh, why can't
